Leander Booth, son of Ferguson and Lucy Boyd Booth, was born January 24, 1838 in Knox Co., Illinois and departed this life at his home in Beaconsfield January 6, 1927, being almost 89 years of age. He was married to Rhoda O'Neal on March 18, 1861. One daughter blessed this union, Mrs. Emma Lent, who preceded him in death twenty nine years ago. He was also bereaved by the loss of his companion who departed this life some 3 years ago. He joined the army in the year of 1862 and was honorably discharged at the close of the war in 1865, having served with Co. H, 83 Illinois Infantry. He moved to Hopeville, Iowa in 1866 and from there he moved to Clearfield in 1892 and again to Beaconsfield 10 years later. While at Clearfield he joined the Grand Army of the Republic and continued a member until his death. Two grandchildren, Clarence and Floyd Lent of Beaconsfield remain to mourn his going as do also three great grandchildren, Dale, Wanda and Emma Lorene Lent. He was the last surviving member of a family of nine children. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the M E Church at Beaconsfield conducted by Rev. E.A. Thomas and the body was laid to rest in Clearfield Cemetery.
